The beauty of the East
Inle Lake is located in the Nyaung Shwe township of Taunggyi District in Shan State. It is also the second-largest lake in Myanmar, listed of UNESCO Man & Biosphere. The Intha people, one of Myanmar’s ethnic minority groups, build their houses on the water and grow floating gardens. Spend your days traveling to different sites by boat, floating through tomato gardens, canals, and small villages. You can visit local silversmiths and silk factories and eat Shan noodles. There are also three monasteries and pagodas that you can’t miss: Nga Phew Chaung (“Cat Monastery”); Inn Daeing, a collection of the oldest pagodas in Inle Lake; and Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery, where you can donate a Buddha statue.
